APPLICATIONS IDENTIFIED FOR MICRO / NANO AIR VEHICLE MISSIONS

 
 

 Mission “A”

Task A1

  • Fighting has cut off all communications including roads but pockets of resistance exist.
  • Company / Squadron commander has no means of assessing the situation to request reinforcements.
  • Brigade Commander requires collated information to
    organize systematic combing operations.
  • Commanders would like to get information / day and night on the situation within about 5-20 kms of their area.
  • Winds are still brisk and there are no trained operators even for remotely piloted UAVs.

 

Task A2

•       Flood relief

      Floods have cut all communications

•       Pockets of refugees marooned

•       District Collector / Commissioner requires collated information to organize systematic relief.

•       Tahsildars to obtain and send information day / night within 5 km. Brisk winds continue.

•       No trained operators for remotely piloted UAVs

Assessed requirements for MICAV

    1. Robust Stability and Control in winds upto 40- kmph
    2. Day and Night Imaging
    3. Simple Operation
    4. Take off and landing in unprepared terrain
    5. Communication to Launch point for image display and exploitation
    6. Reliable system within 2 years

Mission “B”

Task B1

•       Terrorist infiltration is rising and early warnings of entries are needed.

•       Request – Development of observation platforms in multiple locations for day and night watch 

•       Controlled from a central control centre depending on dynamic situation

•       Assessment of requirements

•       As in Task A1 but since they will be static observation points controlled centrally, a MICAV with vertical take off and landing capability would be useful

•       Terrorists can be in urban built up areas.

Task B2

Flood levels continuously rising

•         Risk of breaches

•         Flooding of towns and marooning of residents in buildings

•         Day/night watch

 

 

Requirements

  1. Mobile Observation platforms to transmit information day/night
  2. Move between buildings to locate trapped persons

  1. VTOL or Tailsitter
  2. Rotary Wing MICAV
  3. INS-GPS Nav
  4. Altitude sensor
  5. Collision avoidance system
  6. Rotor diam – 200 mm to 300 mm

 

MISSION C

Task C1

Search and Rescue of a Pilot who has ejected and landed in an area where communication is cut off because of lack of line of sight.

 

Task C2

Search and Rescue of a mountaineer who has fallen into a  crevasse and communication is cut off because of lack of Line of Sight Suggested MICAV

•       Flapping Wing (Insect Type)

•       Negotiate narrow spaces without collision and emerge into free space for communicating with base.

 

 

 

MISSION D

 

•       Explosion Spewing toxic gases from a NBC weapon / Industrial plant

•       Need-Obtain direction and concentrations of Toxic gas cloud

 

Suggested MICAV

 

•       Fixed Wing or Rotary Wing MICAV to Criss - cross affected areas

•       Feed data to Central control station

•       “Swarm” control methodology

•       Collision avoidance systems
